Everest Backup Increment Documentation
Overview
The Everest Backup Increment feature allows users to create incremental backups of their WordPress site efficiently. Incremental backups only save changes made since the last backup, saving storage space and reducing server load. This document provides a step-by-step guide to setting up and using this feature.
Note
Only Backup and Restore can be done. The features Migration/ Cloning feature is not there for Incremental Backup.
Prerequisites
Everest Backup Pro License Key: Ensure you have a valid license key for Everest Backup Pro.
Cloud Addon (Optional): Required if you wish to save backups to a cloud storage service.
Setting Up Incremental Backup
1. Navigate to the Backup Settings
- From the WordPress admin dashboard, go to Everest Backup -> Backup -> Schedule Backup.
2. Enable the Backup Schedule
- Click the Enable button to reveal the schedule settings.
3. Activate Incremental Backup
- Locate the Set Increment Backup setting in the middle of the settings page.
- Turn on the Set Increment Backup toggle. New settings for configuring incremental backups will appear.
4. Configure Incremental Backup Settings
- Set your preferred Increment Cycle (e.g., how often backups should be created automatically).
Note
The Increment Cycle option will only appear if the Schedule Cycle is set to Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly.
- Choose where to save the backups:
i. Local Web Server: - If you don’t want the backup file to be removed after a restore, go to Everest Backup → Settings, look for the Delete After Restore option, and set it to No. Click Save to apply the changes.
ii. Cloud (requires the cloud addon)
5. Save Your Settings
- After configuring the incremental backup settings, click Save.
Creating the Parent Backup
1. Start a Parent Backup
- A parent backup is required before incremental backups can begin.
- To create a parent backup, either: Run a manual backup, or
Click Create Scheduled Backup Now in the scheduled backup settings.
2. Wait for the Backup Process
- Once the backup process starts, wait until it completes.
- After completion, the page will prompt you to reload. Reload the page.
3. Verify the Parent Backup
- Go to Everest Backup -> History in the admin dashboard.
- If you want to view the backup, choose either Local Web Server or Cloud (depending on where you saved your backup).
- Next, select Incremental from the dropdown on the right side of the page and click the Filter button to view the backup.
- The parent backup will have the letters "buwa" in its name.
Managing Incremental Backups
1. Child Backups
- After the parent backup is complete, incremental backups (child backups) will be created automatically at the configured time interval.
- Child backups are listed under the parent backup in History. A dropdown icon will appear next to the parent backup to view the child backups.
- After each increment, new rollback points will be created. If the user clicks on a rollback point, the website will revert to that backup point, and any content added after that backup point will be removed. [IMAGE]
FAQ's
Q1: What is a parent backup?
- A parent backup is the initial full backup of your website. It is required before incremental backups can start.
Q2: Why can’t I see the Increment Cycle option?
- Ensure the Schedule Cycle is set to Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly. The Increment Cycle option will only appear with these settings.
Q3: Can I save incremental backups to the cloud?
- Yes, but you need the Cloud Addon to enable this feature.
Q4: How do I identify a parent backup?
- Parent backups have the letters "buwa" in their name in the History section.
Q5: Why am I getting a "No Parent Found" error?
- It could be because you didn’t create a parent backup initially, or the parent backup was removed. In this case, create a parent backup as mentioned above, and the incremental backup will work fine.
Q6: What if the backup location changes?
- If the backup location is changed (e.g., from one cloud source to another, or from Local Web Server to Cloud), you must create a new parent backup and then start the increment cycle again.
Q7: How does the incremental backup sequence work?
- Incremental backups work in sequence, creating a chain of child backups. If any backup in this sequence is removed or deleted, the incremental cycle will stop, and an error will be shown. To fix this, start the increment cycle again by creating a new parent backup.
Conclusion
The Everest Backup Increment feature simplifies the backup process while optimizing storage usage. By following this guide, you can ensure your website data is backed up efficiently and securely.
